The Third City

Thousands of stripes of paper with human figures drawn on them. The Third City was born partially of my impossibility of throwing any useless things away This has little to do with ecology and is rather a way of perceiving objects as creatures with a spirit to themselves. This prevented me from discarding the numerous stripes that remain after fitting the paper size to the plate size in the printing process. Different configurations of The Third City have different sizes, and methods of installation vary according to the space occupied. The Third City was founded in 1990, and is continuously growing. Some of the citizen took part in art events. Very few of them are victims, their color has nothing to do with sadness. If they could speak they would be incredibly boring (they adore complaining). Luckily enough, they are deaf and dumb.

Above are several single elements of the installation. The total "headcount" is 1100. When it was installed at the Fort Sztuki (The Fort of Art) in 1995, this installation was fitted with a system that was slowly lifting the whole network gradually, during the day. In the meantime I was replacing the drawings with white sheets of paper. At sunset, all drawings were gone.
Each drawing is ~ 13x21 cm in size. The size of the installation varies; in the illustrations below it was ~ 6x8 m.
